Fitzgerald & Co. Hires Mike Groenewald and Bowen Mendelson as Creative Directors on Coca-Cola

Fitzgerald & Co. Atlanta hired creative directors Mike Groenewald and Bowen Mendelson to work on its Fitzco//McCann dedicated Coca-Cola unit. They will report to executive creative directors Wes Whitener and Mitch Bennett, who were promoted to their current roles back in August of 2015.

“These are two great guys and great creatives, and an example of how Fitzco is continuing to tap talented, award-winning creatives to the exciting culture of Atlanta,” chief creative officer Noel Cottrell said in a statement released to LBB.

Groenewald makes the move to Fitzgerald & Co. from South Africa, where he most recently spent over five and a half years as a creative director with TBWA\Africa. Before that he spent over six years as a senior art director with Ogilvy Johannesburg and Unisono. Over the course of his career he has worked with clients including Nike, SABMiller, KFC and Nissan.

Mendelson joins the agency following a period as a freelance copywriter in the San Francisco area, including work with Uber. Before that he spent a year as a creative director and copywriter with Ogilvy & Mather Chicago, working on Ernest Hemingway Foundation, Kimberly-Clark and BP. That followed a similar stint at mcgarrybowen, where he focused on Sears and USTA. Prior to that he spent a little over a year as an associate creative director and copywriter with Energy BBDO, where he worked with clients including Bayer, Frito-Lay, Wrigley and Quaker.

This marks the second recent expansion of the Atlanta shop’s creative department. Last September, GCD Carl Corbitt and ACD Sherman Winfield joined from CP+B Boulder and McCann New York, respectively.
