Droga5 Sings ‘Ballad of Bratsgiving’ for Johnsonville

By Erik Oster

Droga5 launched a new spot for sausage brand Johnsonville ahead of National Bratwurst Day, which the agency has re-branded as “Bratsgiving,” on August 16th.

The new spot presents a Bratsgiving anthem by Leon Sunday, who has “composed more songs about sausage than anyone in history,” parodying the types of long ads for music collections you’d typically catch on late night TV in the 90s while promising the song is “the greatest love song ever written about sausage.” “Ballad of Bratsgiving” goes as far as parroting the “allow…for delivery” ending of those ads with its call for viewers to download the track at Johnsonville.com and “Please allow 10-12 seconds for download…unless your internet is slow, then it might be more like 15-18 seconds.” It’s easy to imagine the spot becoming popular with the Adult Swim crowd, and its over-the-top and slightly surreal humor is a natural progression from Droga5’s previous work for the brand. It tones down the craziness of “Bratfest in Bed” and the result is something much more approachable and a good deal funnier.
