Droga5 Dips Into the Verizon Roster to Find Its First Chief Design Officer

By Patrick Coffee

Droga5 recently turned to the dark side to find the new head of its design department: the client side.

Today the agency that no one will admit to being jealous of announced that Jason Severs would be its first-ever chief design officer.

He joins the Droga team from Verizon, where he spent the last year-plus as director of experience design and strategic initiatives. His new role is similar in that he will look to expand the agency’s Creative Technology, Experience and Brand Design teams at its FiDi headquarters.*

“For this new role at agency, we needed someone with ambition, compassion and talent to oversee three of our most crucial departments” said Mr. Droga himself. “Jason is fortunate to inherit talented individuals who are leading our design departments, and I look forward to his contributions to our continued success.”

Before joining the telecom giant last year, Severs spent more than a decade with frog, formerly known as Frog Design. He was ECD at the studio’s New York office and also led its global experience strategy offering.

Here’s his statement:

“We are aggressively designing the world around us. It’s critical we leverage design to create meaningful experiences and drive innovation in a way that helps brands break through, while also being relevant and respectful to our rapidly evolving human experience. Creative agencies such as Droga5 are looking to increase their impact on clients’ businesses with communications and content designed for engagement. I’m excited to join the team at Droga5 and look forward to building.”

In his spare time, Severs teaches classes to masters program students at the School of the Visual Arts.
