Draftfcb Appoints New Global CMO

By Kiran Aditham

While we continue to shake the rust off after returning from Austin, Draftfcb has some major news to report. No, not the launch of Firestarter, we already covered that, but that it’s hired Debra Coughlin as its new EVP/global CMO. Coughlin, who assumed her post this week, has spent the last four years at Citigroup as EVP/CMO for CitiCards and EVP, branding and advertising for Citi North America’s consumer brand.

Prior to Citi, Coughlin was SVP, global brand building at MasterCard, where she apparently a “principal architect” on the brand’s long-running “Priceless” campaign. The New York native does also have her fair share of agency experience, though, dating back to the early 80’s when she started as an assistant account exec at Y&R, where she worked on J&J personal products and General Foods desserts. Years later, Coughlin would assume the post of SVP/global group director at the agency. In addition, she’s also served as as senior partner/management director at JWT.

In her new post, meanwhile, Coughlin will be responsible for leading Draftfcb’s Global Capabilities team and increase awareness of the agency’s 6.5 Seconds that Matter model.
