Did WCRS Lift Idea for “Born Free”?

By Kiran Aditham

Today’s latest ad ripoff accusation concerns a recent campaign from London’s WCRS called “Born Free”, which brings to light the plight of displaced animals but looks fairly similar to an outdoor one that was done over a year ago by Toronto-based Holmes & Lee and Reason Partners.

The latter party has apprised us of their site where they do several image comparisons between the two efforts, adding that …”this replication is beyond coincidence” and that they “disagree with Picasso’s quote, ‘Good artists copy, great artists steal.’ There’s nothing great, or flattering about this.” Compared to other ripoff accusations that get sent our way, the Reason folks might have a case. Here are two examples below, the first from Reason’s campaign and the second from WCRS.
