DAVID Makes Wieners Happy in Heinz Super Bowl Spot

The last time Heinz appeared in the Super Bowl in 2014, Cramer-Krasselt broke a 16-year dry spell for the brand with a few well-placed farts.

This year the condiment giant aims to keep thing a little more high-brow with an army of wieners wearing wieners. No joke. Thankfully, these dogs are adorable with or without their favorite condiment flavorings.

Here’s an extended version of the 30-second spot set to air during the third quarter of Sunday night’s game.

The ad, created by the Miami office of Brazil-based Ogilvy offshoot DAVID, extends the agency’s 2015 efforts to reintroduce the public to Heinz mustard with “Ketchup’s Got a New Mustard.” Utilizing the same characters, a setting that resembles the Swiss Alps and a big dramatic assist from one Harry Nilsson, DAVID officially launches a new campaign titled “Meet the Ketchups.”

“…we tried to find something simple, visual, and fun to communicate that hot dogs can’t resist the great taste of Heinz,” says agency founder and CCO Anselmo Ramos. “So what better way than to introduce the extended Heinz Family than with a Weiner Stampede during the Super Bowl?”

C-K was understandably not too happy with DAVID getting the Big Game assignment this year, but we’re guessing the client will probably not regret its decision. (Not that this has anything to do with the quality of work produced by the respective agencies.)

A fully integrated “Meet the Ketchups” campaign will follow this anthem spot, but you already knew that.
