CP+B Boulder Promotes 4 New Creative Directors

By Patrick Coffee

The Boulder headquarters of Crispin Porter + Bogusky promoted four to the position of creative director this week.

Kelly McCormick, Stephanie Kohnen, Mona Hasan and Quinn Katherman all previously served as ACDs, and chief creative officer Ralph Watson framed their promotions as a glimpse into the future of the CP+B organization in a statement:

“These four have been vital contributors to multiple noteworthy campaigns, clients and new business. Their incredible talent, work ethic and creative instincts push the agency forward in a new way every day. It’s an honor to have them help lead and shape the next generation of creativity of CP+B in Boulder.”

McCormick joined Crispin in 2010 after spending a couple of years working at McCann New York under one Matt O’Rourke. Since then she has worked on some of the organization’s biggest accounts including Infiniti, Domino’s and American Airlines—and she also contributed to the 2012 launch of American Express Small Business Saturday, which won a Promo Grand Prix in that year’s Cannes Festival. Her work on the 2013 Best Buy Super Bowl ad starring Amy Poehler also garnered press coverage after she was named “second most-awarded copywriter” by Creativity the previous year.

Kohnen, who moved to Colorado in 2013, had previously been an art director and ACD with WPP’s Team Detroit. The Motor City native has extensive experience working on auto brands including Lexus, Ford, GM and Chrysler, and during her tenure at CP+B she has collaborated on campaigns for Kraft, Domino’s, Best Buy, Windows Phone and Fruit of the Loom. She also contributed to various projects related to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, which won an Emmy and several Webby Awards.

Hasan came to CP+B in 2012 after stints as a senior copywriter at McKinney and R/GA. She has also worked on Kraft, Domino’s and Fruit of the Loom along with Under Armour (Droga5 first joined the roster in 2013 working on the brand’s women’s line), leading CP+B’s creative efforts on Fruit of the Loom’s fake plastic pants “Plastique” project last year. Her work has earned awards from Cannes, One Show, Clio and more.

Quinn Katherman is the most recent hire in the group; she worked as an ACD and copywriter at Arnold Boston and Barkley of Kansas City before moving to Crispin late last year. She’s also had quite a career trajectory: the funny cards she wrote for Recycled Paper Greetings scored her a gig as a copywriter on the Sonic Drive-Thru account at Barkley, and she later helped develop the voice of Progressive’s ubiquitous Flo while at Arnold. Additional clients have included Jack Daniel’s, Carnival, Yoplait and Vanity Fair.

These promotions follow last month’s exodus in which 6 VP-level employees left CP+B Boulder to launch their own, as-yet-unnamed venture.
