Ogilvy & Mather New York appointed Colin Drummond as head of planning, responsible for overseeing brand strategy. He will report to Ogilvy & Mather worldwide head of planning Colin Mitchell.

“Colin Drummond is one of the most respected names in the planning world,” said Mitchell in the press release. “He has led strategy on many definitive brand campaigns over the last decade and has also trained a cadre of planners who now populate some of the best agency departments in the world. We’re delighted to have him back where he belongs.”

The appointment marks a return to Ogilvy for Drummond, who spent four and a half years with Ogilvy & Mather West as senior partner, head of planning and then chief strategy officer, beginning in May of 2010. He left the Ogilvy organization in September of 2014 to become chief strategy officer and partner at Deutsch’s Los Angeles office, working with clients including Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Volkswagen, Target and Dr Pepper Snapple Group; Drummond “amicably” left the IPG shop last November and launched his own strategic consulting operation in L.A.

Prior to his first stint at Ogilvy, Drummond spent nearly six years at CP+B in Boulder, serving as vice president, associate director, “cognitive and cultural radar” for the agency’s Miami office and then VP and director of cultural and business insights in Boulder. He also served as VP, senior planner with Mullen.

“Ogilvy & Mather has an unmatched reputation for managing big and important brands,” said Drummond. “What’s exciting is the variety of opportunities its tremendous scale allows. I missed the culture and am really pleased to be a part of it again.”
