Chandelier Creative, Old Navy ‘Double the Gifts!’ with Brownstein, Armissen

By Erik Oster

Chandelier Creative’s first holiday spot for Old Navy found Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen sitting at the kids’ table. Now the pair are back and seem to have dropped the ball on Christmas.

In the spot, Brownstein and Armisen, who double as gender-reversed versions of themselves, forget to get gifts for their niece and nephew. So, while in heated discussion, the pair hops on the Old Navy website and orders something that will arrive by Tuesday. Problem solved, right? The attempts at humor misfire pretty badly here perhaps the bigger problem is the muddled message. Old Navy is a last resort if you’ve forgotten gifts? We imagine what it’s trying to communicate is that the chain has such wide appeal that you can find gifts for anyone, but that really gets lost amidst all the chaos.
