Campbell Ewald, JWT Vet Lands at Assembly

By Erik Oster

MDC Media Partners media agency Assembly appointed Kendra Mazey as managing director of its Detroit office. In the new role, she will lead all facets of the office while focusing on revenue growth and reporting to Assembly and MDC Media Partners CEO Martin Cass.

Mazey arrives at Assembly with over twenty years of media strategy experience, most recently serving as group director, media strategy for Campbell Ewald. A 15-year veteran of the agency, she originally arrived at Campbell Ewald in 2001, following five years with JWT as partner, associate media director. She began her career as a media planner with Wyse Advertising in 1993.

Mazey’s departure from Campbell Ewald followed a series of downsizing at the agency in the wake of the “Ghetto Day” email controversy and the losses of its U.S. Navy and USAA accounts, the latter of which canceled its contract with Campbell Ewald shortly before IPG fired Campbell Ewald CEO Jim Palmer. Last week, Campbell Ewald announced the formation of a new executive team under Palmer’s replacement, Kevin Wertz.

“Kendra has a great reputation in our industry and the Detroit market, building brands through creative and strategic solutions,” Cass said. “I have no doubt she will be an asset to the Assembly community. As our senior team continues to expand, it’s an honor to welcome her aboard.”

“I couldn’t be more excited to join Assembly, an agency with the brightest creative minds in media today,” Mazey said. “I’m a huge fan of its ‘art meets science’ mentality — an approach that I’ve held throughout my career. I can’t wait to get started.”
