BMW Brand Manager Causes NYC Bomb Scare Thanks to Prototype

By Kiran Aditham

With New York City already on high alert in recent weeks thanks to an actual attempted bombing in Times Square, BMW brand manager Martin Birkmann couldn’t have picked a worse time to leave the engine running in an X3 (or X6) SUV prototype, which was sitting under a tarp on Central Park West.

According to the New York Post, while Birkmann was out picnicking with his girlfriend and frolicking in Central Park, streets had to be closed and the NYPD bomb squad was smashing in his rather odd-looking ride covered in truly ugly black & white swirls to search it. Birkmann’s excuse? He was trying to disguise the car’s look before it launched and said that the X3 runs so silently that he didn’t even notice it was still on when he left. Well played, sir.
