BBH New York and PlayStation Sink Deeper Into Virtual Reality

By Patrick Coffee

We still haven’t quite gotten down with the VR movement, but then we are always late to everything. You know who is totally down with all things virtual? PlayStation, of course.

BBH, which has been working with PlayStation since 2013, recently released a new campaign hyping the client’s VR capabilities via new titles from two of gaming’s biggest properties: Star Wars and Batman.

The purpose of these two spots is to show skeptical or inexperienced gamers what the VR experience could really be like. In “Batman: Arkham VR,” things get dark very quickly after a rug doubles as quicksand.

A slightly older spot promoting “Star Wars Battlefront: X-wing Mission” has scored some love on the YouTube as we get ready for yet another movie marketing push.

Our first thought: we know that guy’s apartment is supposed to look shabby, but the square footage is pretty impressive for a bro in his 20s. And we’re guessing it’s set in Chicago because it’s definitely not New York or San Francisco unless he co-founded Soylent.

But that X-wing sequence was so close to the fantasy of every kid born between 1960 and 1990 that it’s bound to build some excitement for the game. If we were 13, we would be begging our parents for that title.

The ads have already started appearing on most major networks, and a third spot will launch next month to promote Farpoint, a game developed specifically to be played in VR.
