BBDO Atlanta, Toys R’ Us Keep the Shelf-Talkers Talking

By Erik Oster

BBDO Atlanta continues the “Shelf-talker” portion of the “Awwwesome” holiday campaign it rolled out for Toys R’ Us last month with a series of new spots.

In “Legal Bot,” Journey Girl Giovanna informs viewers of the deals available to Toys R’ Us card holders this holiday season before handing things over to Spin Master’s Meccanoid, who engages “legal announcer mode” to go over some of the gritty details before dropping the mic. “Exchange Rate” features toys talking about a different deal, which allows customers who spend $75 in stores now through November 21 to receive a ten dollar gift card, which the characters each put into terms they’re familiar with. “Stock Boy,” meanwhile sees a group of toys mistake a Toys R’ Us employee for a very “lifelike” creation. The ads are currently running on broadcast and are also up on the brand’s YouTube page. They fall very much in line with the formula laid out in previous spots such as “Optimus Prime” and “Lost,” with humor that should appeal to kids and simultaneous placement for some of the holiday season’s most popular toys. (Which should have them running to their parents to request said items as gifts.)
