BBDO and AT&T Have Seen the Future of the Internet

By Patrick Coffee

Since Omnicom won that tiny $2 billion review back in August, BBDO has been busy producing more work for one of its biggest clients.

The agency’s latest campaign promotes AT&T Fiber, which we assume to be a FiOS competitor because we haven’t subscribed to cable in any form since 2004. (We know, it’s fiber-optic internet service.)

Anyway, a new campaign directed by Harold Einstein, former copywriter who has helmed spots for Crest, Geico, Kayak and Little Caesar’s (among others), positions the fiber network as The Future of The Internet as explained by an appropriately nameless man/machine/spokesperson who dresses like he just blew his whole paycheck at Theory in the year 2027.

We sympathize.

The next spot elaborates on these themes and throws in a few extras: AI refrigerators! Smart fruit! Ageless imitation Rothkos!

Not to be contrarian, but there was something amazing about waiting two weeks to finish torrenting a rarities album on Napster that was only shared by two users in Greece after figuring out when they would be active and just letting your landline-powered dorm laptop go.

Unlike Mark Zuckerberg’s janitor, the massaging bot does not have the voice of Morgan Freeman.

BBDO’s New York and Atlanta offices worked on this campaign.
