barrettSF launched a new spot for 2K’s WWE 2K16 featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger recreating a classic scene from Terminator 2.
Reprising his Terminator role, Schwarzeneger walks into a dive bar and sizes up its patrons before approaching one, uttering the famous line, “I need your clothes. Your boots. And your motorcycle.” The supporting cast is in this case replaced with WWE wrestlers to promote the game. Schwarzenegger’s appearance seems a strange, albeit attention-grabbing, gimmick until it’s revealed at the conclusion of the spot that the ad is promoting a Terminator playable character to gamers who pre-order the title. While the character’s involvement comes across as slightly random, it is particularly timely given the recent release of Terminator Genisys.
“It’s a nerd’s dream: a painstaking re-creation of a classic film with a relevant twist to the cast,” barrettSF creative director Pete Harvey told Adweek. “Our hope is that people pull up this scene with the original to compare what stayed absolutely consistent and what subtly changed.”
