Ari Weiss Becomes DDB’s First-Ever North American Chief Creative Officer

By Erik Oster

DDB appointed Ari Weiss to the newly-created position of chief creative officer, North America, effective February 1.

Weiss joins DDB from BBH New York, where he has spent the last five and a half years, most recently serving as chief creative officer. While with BBH he worked with clients including Axe, Netflix and Playstation, for which he served as executive creative director on the ADC Award-winning “Perfect Day” spot for the PS4.

We learned that Weiss was leaving the agency for an unspecified opportunity, along with BBH North America CEO Pat Lafferty from an internal memo leaked in late September. Lafferty subsequently landed at Translation as president the following month.

Weiss originally joined BBH New York as an executive creative director in March of 2011, following two years as a creative director with 180LA. Before that he spent two years as creative director with GS&P, following a year as a senior copywriter with W+K and four years as a creative director with BBDO.

“If you trace his career, everywhere he has gone, good work has followed him,” Wendy Clark, who joined DDB North America as president and CEO last November, told Adweek.

“We’re always looking to make better and better work. That goal never ceases no matter where you are,” Weiss added. “Chemistry is everything and when you find that chemistry you want to put it to the test.”
