April Fools’ Day: More Agency and Brand Pranks

By Kyle O'Brien

There are no shortages of pranks, jokes and general silliness on this day, April Fools’ Day 2022. Now that the pandemic seems to be waning, brands and agencies are more in the mood to have some fun. Below are some of the fools that aren’t part of Adweek’s roundup of pranks.

Mt. Washington gets a new name

People in the Mt. Washington Valley, across New Hampshire and the rest of the country are invited to cast their vote to rename the legendary mountain, the highest point on the East Coast. Being the tallest mountain named after a man who was clearly not the tallest president seems preposterous, especially to those at Drive Brand Studio, a small agency in the heart of the White Mountains. Voters can choose between legitimately tallest presidents Abraham Lincoln and Lyndon Johnson to rename the rockpile. Vote on the campaign’s dedicated website here through April 2 to see which president gets the nod.

YogaRenew Overworks its Yogi

YogaRenew is rolling out “Practice with Patrick,” a new service to help yogis maintain a daily yoga practice. Anybody who signs up will have an in-person visit from Patrick Franco—every single day. The service aligns with YogaRenew’s mission to make yoga and yoga teacher training more accessible. The only problem? Patrick is really tired and overworked.

Ram Trucks Trucker Cover

Ram Trucks teamed with agency GSD&M for this Instagram fake product. It’s the Ram Trucker Cover, a cover shaped like a Ram 1500 that fits conveniently over your neighbor’s Ford F150 so you don’t have to look at that brand of truck. The in-faux-mercial states that the cover isn’t just good for April Fools’ Day, it’s also perfect for birthday parties and Halloween.

Vodka and hot dogs

Reyka Vodka from Iceland is blending American and Icelandic traditions in its Pylsur Plunge, which it is billing as the world’s first hot dog hot tub. The Icelandic tub is perfect for both relieving sore muscles as well as cooking hot dogs to the correct temperature. Nothing like stewing in your own hot dog water.

Breakfast sausage cookies

Bakery Tiff’s Treats introduced its fresh-baked Kolache Cookies—sugar cookies topped with favorite breakfast foods. They came in classic sausage, egg and cheese, and jalapeño, sausage and cheese. The company took the prank to its own employees for a taste test that went exactly as one might expect.

Fresh Norwegian Air for $40

Air Refresh is billed as a revolutionary new air freshener made from a single ingredient—fresh Norwegian mountain air. Air purification company Airthings takes fresh mountain air from the countryside of Norway, compresses it and bottles it in a handy non-aerosol bottle. Air Refresh users have reported hearing the sounds of rushing water, mating mammals and a desire to hike great distances, according to the promo video. And it’s a great non-bargain at $39.99 per bottle.

Take a seat on the wing

Independent air carrier JSX decided to give its patrons a fun way to take their next flight. An email touts “Sky Patio” seating, which lets people sit in luxury on the wing of the plane in a separate outdoor lounge, complete with sun umbrella.

Hummus face mask

Ithaca Hummus is getting into the skincare business with its lemon beet face mask. It claims to be the first of its kind, using the power of plant-based ingredients for a full faced glow. The brand claims that lemon beet is the first flavor to launch, but it will release a calming chickpea cucumber, anti-aging red pepper and other flavors of masks.

A new definition of the shower beer

Yuengling, America’s oldest brewery in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, launched an exclusive line of shower products, Lagér by Yuengling. The lineup features shampoo, conditioner and bodywash, a proprietary three-step, total-body regimen. The brewery states that shower beers will never be the same.

Hendrick’s Hot Air Express

Hendrick’s Gin will turn NYC rush hour into happy hour with floating sky bars that transport city dwellers from the city to the airport all summer long. Why choose the speed of a helicopter when you could spend three times as long on a marvelously inefficient happy hour adventure in a hot air balloon?
