Another Year, Another Cannes Young Lions Battle

By Bob Marshall

The Cannes Young Lions Competition has kicked off again to honor what’s billed as the best young talent in the advertising world. Participants compete in five different categories: Print, Film, Cyber, Media and, new for 2011, Young Marketer, which is exclusively designed for non-agency marketing professionals.

Starting today, participants under 30 in the Young Marketer category and under 28 in the others will compete for a spot on “Team USA.” Yes, it’s totally like D2: The Mighty Ducks where the Ducks compete in the pee-wee national hockey tournament. Five winning two-person teams will be sent, all expenses paid, to the French Riviera from June 19-25.

Registration for the 2011 Cannes Young Lions Competition runs from today until Thursday, Feb. 24. Should you decide to click here and register for the competition, you will be emailed a creative brief on Feb. 25 which you will then have one week to complete. Best of luck, young advertising professionals, and to view the winning entries from 2009, click here. For 2010’s winners, click here. Sponsors for the “Team USA” program include Digitas for Cyber, Pereira & O’Dell for Film, Starcom MediaVest Group for Media, USA Today for Print and Microsoft for Young Marketer.
