Anomaly Takes Squarespace to the Oscars

By Erik Oster

Anomaly created an ad for Squarespace called “Field Stories” which will run during ABC’s broadcast of the Oscars on February 28.

The spot, directed by Noam Murro celebrates award-winning photographer David Guttenfelder. Guttenfelder provides the narration himself, explaining, “My camera has led me everywhere I’ve ever gone.” He’s drawn to documenting dangerous situations half a world away, he says, “so everyone can see what I’ve seen.” The spot debuted online today in its full-length version and will run as a 30-second spot during ABC’s Oscar coverage on February 28. Supporting the spot is a campaign website displaying 14 of Guttenfelder’s photos paired with audio of the photographer recounting the capturing of each shot. The effort follows Anomaly being named lead creative agency for the brand last November and its “You Should” campaign last month. Squarespace’s decision to run an ad during the Oscars for the second consecutive year follows its second straight Super Bowl ad (after last year’s big game ad starring Jeff Bridges).
