Amnesty International Kills Death Penalty in New TBWA Paris Spot

By Matt Van Hoven

In Amnesty International’s latest piece from TBWA Paris, we see wax figurines of various death penalties melting away with the help of some unseen heat source. Presumably, that heat is the effect of Amnesty’s efforts, which to date have helped convince many nations to end their death penalty practices.

“139 countries have wiped out the death penalty. Only 58 are left to convince.” – reads copy at the end of the spot.

The advert links to a site, amnesty.fr. It’s in French. The ad is English. OK, so that’s fine, if you know French. But c’mon, bilingualism is for the oiseaux.

And though we really enjoy the song ‘Everyday’ by Carly Comando, it’s been done. The NBA commandeered it for “Where Amazing Happens“, as did this guy Noah when he took a picture-a-day of himself for a year. Then the Simpsons spoofed it and well, the song choice could have been better.

Then again, the NBA and the Simpsons are fairly Americentric, so maybe we shouldn’t mind so much. Note to self: America does not equal the center of the world.
