All the Advertisers Who Pulled Out of Glenn Beck’s Show May Be Kicking Themselves (And by This We Mean Wal-Mart)

By Matt Van Hoven

Last week Fox News Channel ranked second highest out of all other cable channels. What’s more, according to TVNewser, Glenn Beck’s show, “The Glenn Beck Program”,

“had its highest rated week ever among Households (1,907,000) and Total Viewers (2,409,000), and second best week in the A25-54 demo (682,000).”

However, there is some confusion in this matter regarding which brands have actually pulled their ads from the show and which have simply shuffled ads away from it. Wal-Mart is the only company to have pulled anything, according to HotAir, and most others claim they’ve either requested their content not be run congruent with TGBP or have said they will pull their ads from FNC as soon as they can.

“Edward,

Walmart has confirmed the retailer pulled ads from the Glenn Beck show on August 3rd

Thanks,

Ashley

And later the company told a concerned customer:

“I am sorry to hear your concern. We continuously review our media plans. In keeping with our internal guidelines to avoid content that is highly polarizing, we’ve instructed our agencies, as of August 3rd, not to run Walmart advertising in news commentary shows on national cable networks. This would include the Glenn Beck Show.

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding. Should you need to call us, we are more than happy to further assist you at 1-800-966-6546.”

Tribble has done some culling and determined that the following brands somehow modified their advertisements.

“Allergan (maker of Restasis), Ally Bank (a unit of GMAC Financial Services), Best Buy, Broadview Security, CVS, Re-Bath, Travelocity, Wal-Mart, ConAgra, GEICO, Lawyers.com, Men’s Wearhouse, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance, RadioShack, Roche, SC Johnson, Sanofi-Aventis, Sargento, and State Farm Insurance have all removed their advertising from the Glenn Beck show, leaving Joe the plumber and the local “re-elect David Duke campaign” as the last ones standing on the show.”

Well, as noted that’s not completely true. Most are now claiming they moved content around, and some said they were never advertised on the show to begin with &#151 just somewhere around the time of Beck’s program. And what that means is that they’re not really taking a stand so much as they are appeasing concerned folks while still benefiting from FNC’s large (for cable) audiences.
