Agency Creative/Producer/Director Did Not Have the Best Weekend

By Kiran Aditham

We”ll try to not pour too much salt on the wound, but this is certainly one of the stranger tales we’ve heard that involves someone in the agency world. It all concerns a watch being worn by one Geoff McGann, who spent over 15 years at Wieden + Kennedy on the creative side, worked as a director at 72andSunny’s 72U program and currently serves as ECD at production company, Generator Content. Well, McGann was arrested at Oakland’s airport on Friday because of his watch, which he dubbed a “piece of art.”

According to Alameda County Sheriff’s Deparment sergeant J.D. Nelson, though, the “ornate watch” had switches, wires and fuses. He added that while no actual explosives were found, McGann was carrying potentially dangerous materials and appeared to have made alterations to his boots, which stuffed with layers of insoles (is there a height requirement at the gate nowadays?). Regardless if he was being too creative for his own good or not, McGann was cuffed for possessing materials that could be used to build explosive devices. As of Friday, he was held in lieu of $150,000 bail and his interesting accessory did delay flights for 20 minutes.
