Advertisers Can Get PII From MySpace, Facebook

PII, or Personally Identifiable Information, has been a hot issue of late with Facebook at the center of the discussion. Mounting privacy concerns have put the company, and others like it, in a position to be scrutinized by privacy advocates. For example, the Wall Street Journal reports today that when you click on an ad in Facebook it’s possible for advertisers to learn who you are.

“Advertising companies are receiving information that could be used to look up individual profiles, which, depending on the site and the information a user has made public, include such things as a person’s real name, age, hometown and occupation.”
