Advantage Advertising Takes A Shot At Drunk Driving

By Michael Musco

Damn! This one is a doozy. I like to see creatives stretch the envelope but Advantage Advertising tore this envelope to shreds with this spot for Q TV. The strategy behind this bad boy is that drinking and driving is bad (duh). If you drink and drive, you put yourself as well as your loved ones in harm’s way not to mention innocent bystanders.

On average someone is killed by a drunk driver every 45 minutes. In 2008, an estimated 11,773 people died in drunk driving related crashes. I guess that dude in the spot just saved his friends the trouble and saved any pedestrians who might have ended up victims. Some might even call him a hero.

Due to the graphic nature of that spot I can’t believe it could have possibly even aired in Indonesia. Maybe it’s something the people of today need to see to wake up and become aware. It could work. Who knows? It will definitely stir up a ton of controversy but does that make it good advertising?
