Adidas Uses NBA Talent for Bizarre ‘Fast Don’t Lie’ Slow Jam

By Bob Marshall

We at AgencySpy know that with the NBA regular season just around the corner and Miami’s big three gearing up to make a title run, you’re probably already being inundated with basketball-related advertising and news. Though it goes against our better judgment to be part of this NBA-fever epidemic and feature two basketball posts in one day, this new spot from Adidas is just too weird to pass up.

Featuring young NBA talents Dwight Howard and Derrick Rose along with comedian Ken Jeong, “Fast Don’t Lie” may be the funniest or most annoying thing you’ve experienced in a while. Sure, seeing Howard pull a Biz Markie impersonation is inherently goofy and worth a few chuckles, but seeing Jeong rolling around on a grand piano and staring strangely at the camera for two minutes takes this ad from silly to kind of unsettling.

Consider this the latest in a series of random Adidas spots attempting to make the company the Old Spice of athletic apparel (as apparently Nike now has the “cool, massive budget” market locked up). Remember Snoop Dogg/Daft Punk Star Wars (which was actually pretty neat)? Well, how about RJ Berger/B.o.B. diner?
