adam&eveDDB Gives ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ a Feline Twist for Temptations

By Erik Oster

In a goofy combination of 80s nostalgia and cat videos, adam&eveDDB reimagines Simple Minds’ 1985 hit “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” as an ode to remembering to buy cat treats in the spot “Treat Them Too” for Temptations.

The full-length version is a music video for the song (attributed to The Electic Furs), directed by Ninian Doff. It’s all about as ridiculous as it sounds. There are cats playing guitar, drums, keyboards and singing (filmed at an angle to make the cat opening and closing its mouth a somewhat convincing depiction of a crooning feline). Interspersed with the band footage are shots of the cat’s owner out on a shopping spree, with the attire a convincing depiction of the era.

Lyrics include “Won’t you think about me/ Next time you’re out treating yourself, baby? You buy yourself loads of things, yeah/You buy everything, but nothing for me,” and a “Meow, meow meow meow meow, meow meow meow meow” refrain.

We don’t have to point out how popular ridiculous cat videos are and we imagine lovers of cats and just funny cat videos in general will be laughing out loud at the purely over-the-top spot and sharing it with friends. No Breakfast Club fist-bump, but hey, you can’t win them all. There’s also a 30-second broadcast version of the spot, but you really need to see the full-length for the complete “I can’t believe they actually did that” experience. Take note, feline-related brands: this is how you advertise to cat lovers.

“Cat videos are brilliant fun, and millions of people watch them every day,”adam&eve DDB executive creative director Richard Brim told Adweek. “In order to reach that audience, we made a music video starring the Electric Furs, with one simple message—reminding cat owners to ‘Treat Them Too’.”
