72andSunny, Damian Lillard Shake Off Doubters for Adidas

72andSunny launched a new spot for Adidas starring Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard, entitled “Creators Never Follow.”

The 30-second spot picks up where this summer’s “Unfollow,” which urged viewers to be themselves rather than follow stars such as Lionel Messi, left off. It follows Lillard as he rhymes lines like “Be a king in your mind but do the work of a servant” and “Ignore the dream-killers and doubters because they ain’t perfect,” before closing on Lillard answering an interview question about what he’d say to his doubters with the answer, “Thank you for the motivation” and the “Creators Never Follow” tagline. The message is a clear one for the brand, but Lillard’s delivery is often a bit awkward and the shots of him filming himself on his phone (we think?) are an odd choice. But I guess that just makes us doubters, right?
