Greg Smith, the longtime chief creative officer at The VIA Agency in Portland, Maine, died on April 20 at the age of 52.

Smith served as the agency’s creative chief for two decades. He first took on the role in 1999, just six years after the agency was founded. Smith’s leadership helped the agency grow to national prominence with a client roster that includes  Lowe’s, Unilever, 1800 Tequila, Golden Corral, Samsung and Stonyfield Organic.

The VIA Agency is Maine’s largest advertising agency based on staff size and revenue.
