Publicis New York has hired Paul Renner as executive vice president, global creative director.

In the new role, Renner will focus on the agency’s Citi account and report directly to Publicis New York CCO Andy Bird.

“Paul is a terrific talent and proven creative leader. We’re building an exciting team here in New York, a mix of rising stars blended and partnered with experienced talent. Paul is a critical part of our team leading work on the marquee, creative-driven Citi business,” Bird said in a statement.

“Andy and I grew up in the business at the same time on different sides of the pond, and his work has always inspired me and made me jealous,” Renner added. “Joining Publicis New York is a great opportunity to work beside him and on such a famous, very visible brand like Citi.”

Renner joins Publicis following over four years at KBS New York, where he served as an executive creative director and led the BMW account, followed by a brief stint as a freelancer. BMW announced in October that it has launched a creative review in the U.S. and KBS confirmed earlier this month that it will not be participating in the process.

Prior to joining KBS, Renner spent a year and a half with Anomaly as global creative director on the agency’s Budweiser account. He has also spent time with W+K New York and Arnold New York, working on ESPN and Volkswagen.
