Mcgarrybowen Makes Strategic Leadership Appointments for U.S. Operations

Mcgarrybowen has named a pair of senior strategy leaders.

The Dentsu Aegis Network agency promoted Jamie Shuttleworth to the role of U.S. chief strategy officer. Shawna Ross has been promoted from her previous role as evp, strategy to take on Shuttleworth’s former role as chief strategy officer for mcgarrybowen’s Chicago office.

Global chief strategy officer Jennifer Zimmerman, who previously held the dual role of U.S. chief strategy officer, announced the news today. Zimmerman explained that mcgarrybowen’s new unified global structure presented an opportunity to elevate the agency’s best talent to handle U.S. operations.

“Jamie’s more than a brilliant strategist—he also embodies the heart of who we are as an agency and what we value. He has built and nurtured an amazing team in Chicago, including Shawna. Together, they are a killer combo,” Zimmerman said in a statement. “Having these new leaders in place will elevate our formidable U.S. strategy offering at a time when clients need big thinking and platform ideas more than ever before.”

The promotions follows mcgarrybowen naming Lucia Grillo as U.S. COO earlier this week.

Shuttleworth joined mcgarrybowen Chicago as chief strategy officer back in 2012. Prior to joining the agency he spent over nine years with FCB, working his way up from director of account planning to chief strategy officer. He began his career as an account planner at Y&R after finding his way into advertising after spending time in the Alaskan oil fields. Over the course of his career he has led strategy for clients including Brown Forman, the Chicago Cubs, Coors, Disney, Dow Chemical, Gatorade, Kraft Heinz, Mattel, SC Johnson, Quaker and Yum! brands.

Ross joined mcgarrybowen to lead planning for Kraft in 2010 and was soon promoted to executive director. She has led strategy for Clorox, as well as Kraft-Heinz. She began her career on the account side at Y&R Chicago, working on large national brands including Kraft, Jim Beam and Sears. After a stint at Chicago Creative Partnership, she spent four years at EnergyBBDO, leading strategy across multiple Bayer Healthcare brand, Shedd Aquarium, and The Art Institute of Chicago, before joining mcgarrybowen.
