Linus Karlsson Joins CP+B as Global Chief Creative Officer

Will partner with new global CEO Erik Sollenberg

A month after naming Erik Sollenberg of Forsman & Bodenfors as its new global CEO, CP+B has recruited another high-profile Swede, Linus Karlsson, to be the agency’s global chief creative officer.

Karlsson made his name in the ’90s when he and Paul Malmstrom, aka “the Swedes,” came the U.S. and electrified the creative scene, first at Fallon and then at Mother New York, which they co-founded. Karlsson later served as McCann’s global CCO for several years, and recently has been running Ming, his own creative shop at the intersection of design, technology and entertainment.

“I wasn’t looking for a new job but the opportunity came up, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it,” Karlsson told Adweek on Tuesday. “I was longing for a new adventure, and when [CP+B chairman] Chuck [Porter] and Erik contacted me, it just seemed like it was meant to be.”

Karlsson will relocate to Boulder, Colo., where CP+B is headquartered. “I’m also attracted to the idea of mountain life and fresh air. My pickup truck will like it here,” Karlsson said.

The global CCO role at CP+B was most recently held by Rob Reilly, who left in 2013 to become global creative chairman at McCann.

“CP+B is a very special place to me,” Karlsson said. “They’ve carved out an entirely unique place in our industry built upon a surprising creativity that I relate to. I know there are a lot of good people here, and I’m excited to join and see what we can cook up together.”
