Here Are the Finalists for the Second-Annual Shorty Social Good Awards

The second-annual Shorty Social Good Awards will return to New York on Nov. 15 to honor the year’s best in cause marketing. Today, the Shorty Awards released its 2017 finalists, including the Fearless Girl statue, which received nods in five separate categories.

“As we gear up for the 10th-annual Shorty Awards, it’s exciting to see that the second-annual Shorty Social Good Awards has seen a significant increase in interest and entries,” said Gregory Galant, Shorty Awards co-founder and CEO of Muck Rack.

Galant said the social justice category received the most submissions.

“Typically, campaigns tend to reflect what is happening right now, so it is not surprising that issues that affect us all, such as education, public health, civic engagement and sustainability, are what brands have chosen to focus on this year,” Galant said.

Fearless Girl is a finalist in the social justice category and four others: financial services, corporate-community partnership, overall Instagram presence and real-time response.

The gender equality in leadership message of the Fearless Girl statue, which was created by McCann New York for State Street Global Advisors, took a hit earlier this month when State Street Corp., the parent of the firm behind the campaign, doled out $5 million to 300 women and 15 black employees it paid less than their white, male counterparts.

Still, the campaign’s call for equality stands strong, and it won 18 honors at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, including four Grand Prix top honors.
