Dentsu Aegis Network has named Michael Russell chief growth officer, effective immediately.
Russell will be tasked with driving growth for the agency while ensuring clients “thrive in the digital economy,” according to a press release. He will report to Dentsu Aegis Network CEO, Americas Nick Brien.
“New business momentum is critical and demands dedicated and experienced leadership to bring the best network solution to client prospects and ultimately to win the best business,” Brien said in a statement.
A 20-year industry veteran, Russell joins Dentsu from Edelman Financial, where he served as interim CMO. Before joining Edelman he spent over two years with iCrossing in roles as chief growth officer, CMO and head of marketing. His agency experience also includes stints at Huge, MSLGroup and MXM.
“After years of leading agency business development, I’m excited to advance to the network level and deliver cross-agency, integrated solutions that accelerate brand and business growth for clients. This is a time of great change and rapid innovation, and therefore, phenomenal opportunity,” Russell added. “I look forward to being part of DAN and our unique growth-focused solutions.”
Last week, Microsoft retained Dentsu as its global media agency of record, following a closed review. Microsoft, which spent an estimated $1.5 billion on measured marketing last year according to the company’s latest annual report, is one of the network’s largest clients.
In April, Dentsu Aegis Network also added to its client roster when Gore-Tex parent company W.L. Gore & Associates selected Dentsu as global media agency for its fabric division. Dentsu Aegis Network also acquired Miami-based digital and performance marketing agency M8 last month and San Francisco-based branding and design agency Character back in February.
