After 33 years with the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, Terry Savage, chairman of advertising’s best-known awards show, will step down after the 2018 event.

Ascential, Cannes Lions’ parent company, made the announcement this morning but did not say why Savage, who first joined Cannes 33 years ago as its representative for Australia, is leaving.

In a separate email sent to Adweek, a Cannes Lions spokeswoman said Savage is leaving to “help other organizations that have a thirst and hunger to understand creativity better.”
