Independent book shop McNally Jackson staged a public protest with a melodic twist in New York this week, reworking classic seasonal songs and sending carolers to perform in front of the Amazon four-star store in the SoHo neighborhood.

The newly written lyrics, from agency DCX Growth Accelerator, were merciless in their attack, drilling into “Amazon and Jeff Bezos’ devastating impact on small businesses and the environment,” according to the campaign.

To the tune of “Jingle Bells,” the carolers sang: “Small business fails in this hell of Bezos’ monopoly, while hundreds more shut their doors every single day, hey! And the packaging waste, all over the place, could wrap a hundred times ‘round the Earth, while that billionaire with no hair quadruples his net worth.”

“Silent Night” also got reworked with these lyrics: “Silent night, ominous night, all stores are closed, no window lights.
