If you’re a parent, then you’re familiar with the tried-and-true white lies and clever tactics that go into keeping your child a believer in Santa Claus for yet another year.
In French telecom company Bouygues’ holiday spot, a doting dad decides to take things up a notch by actually pretending to be Santa Claus in the weeks leading up to Christmas. His daughter is thrilled when she gets her hands on Santa Claus’s phone number, which is really her just dad’s. When she gives him a call to go over her Christmas list for the year, he responds in character while hiding in the garage of their house.
It’s a sweet, simple gesture that begins to go slightly awry when she begins incessantly calling him at all hours of the day, forcing him to jump out of meetings—and at one point, out of the shower—so he can keep up the ruse.
The spot, of course, ends on a sentimental note. On Christmas morning, his phone rings yet again, but this time it’s her father and not Santa that she wants to talk to.
Created by BETC, the ad was directed by Martin Werner and is set to “For Once in My Life” by Stevie Wonder. Last year, the brand’s holiday ad featured a son who, as he got older, became increasingly embarrassed by his father’s dance moves, but grew to appreciate them once he had a child of his own.
