ESPN has agreed to stop airing this commercial after it drew fire from gay-rights advocates, who complain that Shaquille O’Neal is being homophobic with his angry denial of Mike Breen’s oddly worded request for a “fist kiss.” And he probably is being homophobic, though I don’t blame Shaq for turning Breen down. Nothing about the term “fist kiss” sounds pleasant. Of course, Shaq could have been more polite about it. His demeanor doesn’t exactly “send a positive message about the camaraderie of sports.”
