Miley Cyrus' twerking episode sure got the world's attention, with everyone from Morning Joe's Mika Brzezinski to The Wall Street Journal's Peggy Noonan. The racy—some would say sexy, some would say desperate—performance lit up YouTube last week, accounting for five of the top 10 slots on VideoWatch's Web series ranker, according to data from VidIQ.

It's clear the now infamous dance with Robin Thicke had a long tail. And it caused more buzz for the Video Music Awards than the show has seen in years. That event accounted for six of the top 10 spots on the list—providing MTV with a huge presence on a platform that it's best known for suing.

NOTE: Adweek’s VideoWatch Chart, powered by VidIQ, reveals the Top 10 Web Series Videos on YouTube every week. The chart tracks more than just pure views; VidIQ incorporates sharing data from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, among other data sources, in an effort to measure true engagement. Every video is also ranked with VidIQ's proprietary score which helps judge the likelihood of a video being promoted in YouTube Related Videos, Search and Recommended Videos.

The ranking is also meant to capture "born on the Web" YouTube content. Thus, material like clips from TV shows, movie trailers and music videos are not included.
