AOL Taps ESPN for Sports Video Content Broadcaster's news, highlights and SportsCenter clips to run on AOL sites

SportsCenter is coming to AOL—in a way.

AOL inked a deal with ESPN that allows the online portal to distribute the sports broadcaster's highlights and other video content—including SportsCenter clips—on its network of sites. It will be a much-needed boost to AOL's sports section, which relies entirely on a Sporting News partnership, content from The Huffington Post and links to other sports sites around the Web. ESPN, for its part, gets to tap into the reach of AOL's online audience.

An AOL spokesman said the ESPN deal does not affect its partnership with Sporting News.

The ESPN videos will run on AOL.com, HuffPost and across its network of publishers, according to AOL's release. "We see a real opportunity in our ability to curate and syndicate locally relevant content to AOL’s vast network of local sites," Matt Murphy, ESPN's svp of digital video distribution, said in a statement. ESPN will handle ad sales for the video content, and the companies will share revenue.

ESPN content was already live on AOL as of yesterday.
