Zoraida Sambolin, an early morning anchor on NBC owned-and-operated WMAQ in Chicago, is leaving the station to join CNN.

Sambolin is expected to make the move in mid-November, according to Time Out Chicago. She has been with WMAQ for nine years.

“We all know how passionate Zoraida is about the stories we cover and the communities we serve,” WMAQ vice president Frank Whittaker wrote in a memo to staffers obtained by Time Out Chicago. “We will miss that passion and her dynamic personality.”

Sambolin currently anchors from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays, alongside Rob Elgas. A search for her successor will begin immediately, WMAQ said.
