WXYZ Names Dave Manney News Director

WXYZ has announced Dave Manney will join the station as news director.

Manney returns to the Detroit ABC affiliate from WNBC in New York where he was managing editor. He worked at WXYZ early in his career.

“Having covered and been a part of many pivotal moments in Detroit’s recent history, it’s thrilling to return during its most important hour,” said Manney in a statement.  “WXYZ is where I grew up. It’s also where I learned the power and responsibility of TV and online news–and the obligation we have to make a difference.”

Before WNBC, Manney had worked as managing editor at New York’s WPIX and director of content for Detroit Public Television. He spent eight years at WXYZ, working as an investigative producer, executive producer of programming, assistant news director and online news manager. From 2003 to 2005, he was director of communications for the city of Detroit.

Manney begins in his new role on Monday, January 6.
