WWOR Lands Interview with Whitney Houston’s Mom

In the first interview since her daughter’s death, Cissy Houston recently sat down with New Jersey Fox station WWOR.

“I’m very proud of my daughter,” Houston told WWOR’s Brenda Blackmon, as the two sat in the same church where the singer’s funeral was held in February. “She accomplished a whole lot in the short time that she had here.”

In addition to honoring her daughter’s accomplishments, Houston lashed out at the media.

“The media is awful,” Houston said. “These people don’t know anything about her. All they know is what they hear, bad things, she’s had her ups and downs. Who hasn’t?”

Considering Houston’s distaste for the media, how was Blackmon able to land the exclusive interview?

It appears that her involvement with Gospelfest may have something to do with it. For the past few years, Blackmon has been involved with the annual gospel music event, where Cissy Houston is a regular performer. Houston, along with members of her family, including her niece Dionne Warwick, is set to do a special tribute to Whitney at this year’s Gospelfest in May.
