WVEC’s Footage of Looters During Hurricane Irene Leads Virginia Beach Police to Arrest

Two men in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia are in custody after a WVEC camera crew caught them looting a neighbor’s house during Hurricane Irene.

According to the station’s website, police in Virginia Beach said that Patrick McGuire, 29, and Charles Andrews IV, 22, stole alcohol and iPod speakers from an empty house just a few blocks from theirs shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday. WVEC’s camera crew, in the area to report on a small tornado that had touched down nearby, caught the men on camera (watch the video, above).

Police were in the area enforcing a mandatory evacuation order and were able to apprehend the men shortly after the incident. The stolen items were recovered.
