As journalists we all know, mistakes happen.
The typical approach to correcting an error that makes it to air is to acknowledge it, correct it and move on.
But at KUSA, the Tegna owned NBC affiliate, anchor Kyle Clark took it a step further and gave context to the error. In a segment called, ‘The Anatomy of an Error’ Kyle explained to the viewer how he misread gun laws at the Denver airport which led to a fact error in a piece that aired on the station last week.
“Was I rushing? Sure, I rush everyday. It’s life. That’s not an excuse for an error to go uncorrected,” he says in the segment.
Clark’s show, Next with Kyle Clark, and Tegna has put an emphasis on transparency in journalism with other segments such as Verify.
