WUSA Anchor Prepares to Fight Cancer for Second Time

WUSA sports anchor Kristen Berset is taking leave from the Washington, D.C. CBS affiliate after a second cancer diagnosis.

“I never thought I would hear those 4 dreaded words… let alone hear them a second time,” Berset wrote on her Facebook page. “‘You have breast cancer.'”

She was declared cancer free after her first diagnosis in 2009 when she was 27.

“I will be having surgery mid-January to be followed by what the doctors expect to be 5-6 weeks of radiation, 5 days a week,” said Berset. “The tumor is estrogen receptor positive which means I will need to take estrogen blocking medicine for 5-10 years.”

“We are a family, and we have your back regardless of what happens,” anchor Lesli Foster told Berset, who is known as KB. “We have you tonight, and we have you at 11, and you have us always.”
