WRBL Promotes Meteorologist, Adds Weekend Newscasts

WRBL, the CBS affiliate for Columbus, GA, announced it has has beefed up its weather team and expanded its weekend news schedule.

Part-time meteorologist Kurt Schmitz goes to full time. He will join Tammy Terry on the morning and midday news.

The station also announced starting this weekend it’s adding an 11:00 p.m. Saturday newscast and a Sunday 6:30 p.m. newscast starting September 29. The weekend shows will be anchored by Sydney Cameron, meteorologist David Reese and sports anchor Dayne Young.

“At News 3, we pride ourselves in being On Your Side,” WRBL vice president and general manager David Hart said in a statement. “That means being a watchdog news organization that serves the public and having the area’s most experienced weather team to protect them during severe weather. These additions to our staff and our weekend newscast expansion reinforce that commitment.”

Schmitz joined WRBL in September 2011 from Columbus ABC affiliate WTVM where he’d worked since 1989.
