WPVI Says Goodbye to its ‘ZooBalloon’

Philadelphia ABC owned station WPVI is saying goodbye to its floating billboard, the “Channel 6 ZooBalloon.”

The balloon fell victim to this winter’s increased snowfall. According to the station, it had been carrying an estimated five to ten tons of snow already and with more snow expected, the manufacturer told WPVI to deflate the balloon.

The station guesses around 228,000 zoo guests have flown in the balloon since its first flight in 2002.

This balloon is actually the second incarnation of the floating logo. The station said the balloons are expected to last from five to seven years. This latest one was approaching its seventh year.
