WPTV Launching 4 p.m. Newscast on WFLX

WPTV, a Scripps-owned NBC-affiliate, and WFLX, a Raycom-owned Fox-affiliate, are set to debut a new, half-hour newscast at 4 p.m.

At the beginning of this year, WPTV began producing newscasts for WFLX under a new partnership. In January, WFLX unveiled a new 10 p.m. newscast with WPTV anchors Shannon Cake and Jay Cashmere, in addition to a revamped morning newscast from 7-9 a.m.

Now, WPTV is expanding its lineup on WFLX with “Fox 29 News First at 4:00,” which will be the market’s only newscast in the 4 o’clock time slot.

“This has been a year of dramatic change for WFLX viewers,” said John Heislman, the station’s vice president and general manager. “Eight months ago we began offering our viewers the experience and expertise of the region’s top-rated news team, and now we get to expand our dedication to high-quality local news by giving our audience the market’s initial roundup of the day’s events.”

Although Raycom continues to program WFLX and provide all advertising sales, WPTV is now responsible for all technical, promotional, and online services for the station.
