WPTA-WISE News Director Retiring

By Kevin Eck

Peter Neumann, news director of Fort Wayne, Ind. ABC and NBC affiliate WPTA-WISE and director of content and strategy for Granite Broadcasting, has announced his retirement.

Neumann has worked as a news director continuously for more than 31 years. He’s been at WPTV-WISE for nine and a half years and spent 22 years at WEAR in Pensacola, Fla. as news director. He’s also worked as the ND at KOLR in Springfield, Mo.

Neumann told TVSpy, “My first TV job was in 1968 with American Forces Television Network (AFTV) Germany.  I also built WBKB-TV Alpena and was news director/anchor there from 1974-1977, moving to WISH-TV Indianapolis as executive producer for 2 ½ years. Also worked at (then) KOOL-TV Channel 10 as a producer, and later as EP at KPNX-TV, both stations in Phoenix.”

Neumann sent out a note to staffers about his May 29th retirement.

“The decision to end a television news career that began in 1968 (yes, we had TV back then) is incredibly difficult,” wrote Neumann. “You know that I like to work hard and cherish working with each of you.”

Neumann added, “I’ll always cherish you and the work we did together as a team, and to make our stations and community better for those who follow. Thank you for your kindness. I will miss you.”
