Paducah, KY, NBC affiliate WPSD had to turn back the clock to get its newscast on air last night after multiple lightning strikes hit the station.
Viewers of the 10:00 p.m. news were greeted by anchor Todd Faulkner who explained why both he and meteorologist Jennifer Rukavina were sitting in the newsroom. “The station took multiple lightning strikes earlier this evening and it knocked out a lot of what we use everyday folks.”
Faulkner told viewers what was also posted on the station facebook page, that they were down to one computer with internet access.
At one point Faulkner who was using a stick mic, used his cellphone to conduct a live interview with a county emergency manager to check on damage in the area during the severe thunderstorm warnings.
The morning crew fared a little better than the 10:00 p.m. anchors did. They were able to use the studio, but were left without prompters. “Talk about a Throwback Thursday!” they wrote on teh station facebook page. “Lightning struck WPSD last night. Mike and I have no TelePrompTer this morning. We are back to paper scripts!”
